There are two distinct phases in chemical-physical purification: chemical and physical.
In the chemical phase, wastewater is conditioned with specific chemical reagents for the pollutants to be separated, producing micro-flakes of insoluble substances.
The physical phase, consists of the separation and subsequent dewatering of the sludge from the clarified water.
The clarified water is then filtered and controlled before being discharged into the sewer system, while the dewatered sludge is sent for disposal. In some applications, the purified water returns in a closed loop to the production process.SAITA has been designing and producing chemical-physical plants for more than 40 years, and has a wide range of standard modular systems, fully automated, continuous or discontinuous cycle.

Specifications
Chemical-physical plants can be designed with continuous or discontinuous (batch) cycles. In the first stages of the treatment process, wastewater is collected and balanced (equalization), in some cases it is stored separately and treated in balanced and controlled volumes.
The chemical reaction staged features one or more sequential tanks in which chemical reagents are added using automated dosing stations. Dosages are controlled by volume or by pH. The next stage is the setting (sedimentation) when the sludge is eparated from the clarified water. The clarified water passes to the filtration stage and subsequent final pH control and adjustment.
Settled sludge, on the other hand, is dewatered using sludge treatment technologies including: filter press, rotary vacuum filter, gravity filters or centrifuges. Dewatering reduces the volume and weight of the sludge to be disposed resulting in cost savings.
Multi-media Filters
Filtration systems to treat well or process water using different types of media filters installed in sequence or in parallel.
Filtration technology used to separate solid or dissolved particles from a fluid by passing through a porous media at a pressure gradient that is higher than atmospheric.
In addition to the removal of suspended solids, different types of filter media are used to retain pollutants by adsorption, ion exchange and oxidation. These systems require frequent flushingoperations which generally use counter current water to remove retained pollutants and restore the functionality of the filtration bed.
Applications:
Water treatment
Final filtration downstream of chemical-physical or biological treatment plants to ensure the compliance with the limits for sewage discharge.
Ground water filtration
Removal of pollutants from well or ground water and upstream pre-treatment of membrane filtration systems.
First rain
Final filtrationof rainwater before discharge to sewer, removal of hydrocarbons and heavy metals.
Iron removal
Removal of Iron and Manganese contained in groundwate, filtration plants used for both filtration of water for industrial use and drinking water.
Specifications
SAITA filtratio plants are designed to fit the specific application, the pollutants to be removed and the flowrate of water to be filtered. The filtration columns, containing the filter media, can be made of : fiberglass, stainless steel or painted carbon steel.
The washing and backwashing operations of the filter beds can be manual or fully automated using pneumatic valves controlled by industrial PLC> Filtration plants are supplied with the feed pump and process control instruments such as: analogic flow meters, counters and pressure controls.
